The Asia Regional Meetups are bimonthly text-based gatherings that bring together folks from the Asian region to share, connect, seek help, and release stress by celebrating each other. In addition, it is a time for us to find ways to support each other, and help us understand what is happening in our part of the world. If you cannot attend the monthly meetups, we are taking notes of each gathering and linking to them below.
The Asian community is connected during the week in different ways. Either through the Asian channel on the TCU Mattermost or via different events organized on various topics during the year.

Community Updates:
- Currently working on a piece on image based sexual violence and potential legal loopholes that could be addressed to strengthen the framework. - The extent of CSAM material that is doing the rounds here is unbelievable. Selling content at rates as cheap as INR 40, which is lesser than half a dollar, is frankly scary. Add deepfakes into the mix and we're at the precipice of deep deep rotting of the society.
- At an independent level, copyright is still something that is used to counter ibsa, since it gets better response from intermediaries.
- The dweb community (https://getdweb.net/) is currently organizing DWeb Camp happening this August
- Digital attacks such as whatsapp and social media account takeover happens a lot in indonesia and there is a process of creating a simple short "how-to" mitigate those kind of attack since it's always happen in the last few years.
- The government use stingray or IMSI-catcher to intercept the verification code sent via SMS by whatsapp, and since the sim card that people use is the same one as their whatsapp number, and also most of them don't add another verification method(s), the attacks went seamless.
- About SIM Card based censorship: there are countries in the region where people have to register their phone number / sim. The number is linked to all official apps and is used for all thing from bureaucracies and official procedures like health insurance, tax, bank , gov ID to bill payment and point system at supermarkets .... There's been reports where SMSs with certain words can't be sent during elections. The gov has also used it for national wise messages and campaigns.
