The MENA Regional Meetups are bimonthly video calling gatherings that bring together folks from the MENA region to share, connect, seek help, and release stress by celebrating each other. In addition, it's a time for us to find ways to support each other, and help us understand what is happening in our part of the world. If you cannot attend the monthly meetups, we are taking notes of each gathering and linking to them below.

The MENA community is connected during the week in different ways. Either through various MENA-focused channels on the TCU Mattermost or via different events organized on various topics during the year.

Multiple events in Tunisia:

  • There has been a digital identity event, where organizations shared information on how it poses surveillance threats within the region. They have created a booklet to provide people with information, and continuously inform people about the developments of within the space and existing legislation.
  • Decree law created with the pretense to fight against cyber crime in Tunisia which has been used to silent people indiscriminately. People are highly at risk of prosecution with high levels of harassement, increasing self censorship.
  • Shrinking civil society space within the region which is causing more people to find pathways to transition out of rights based work or leave the region all together.
  • With everything happening within the region , focusing on radical hope and joy is very important to sustaining ourselves, efforts and work.
