Notes
We shared some news and resources:
- You Can Now See the Code That Helped End Apartheid
- Kumquat
- first release of an app called CoMapeo, at https://awana.digital . It's a mapping app that works entirely offline. It's primarily used by Indigenous people to map and protect their land from things like illegal deforestation and mining.
- At the Calyx Institute, they are developing some new educational resources to help users better understand digital privacy tech and how to use it!
We talk about how Signal get folks join the app, and we shared different experiences:
- We usually knew about it through the Digital Rights community and then, we are able to invite our people to join, and we teach them to use the app.
- It's important to aknwoledge the reputation of the company. It is true that in some regions and contexts, people that aren't involve in the Digital Rights scene have a hard time using Signal, since they are so engaged with Whatsapp.
