Open Technology Fund's Ask-Me-Anything

Open Technology Fund (OTF) works to advance internet freedom in repressive environments by supporting technologies that provide secure and uncensored access to the Internet. Currently, over two billion people globally use OTF-supported technology to exercise their human rights online.

In this OTF's Ask-Me-Anything, you will have the opportunity to ask OTF leadership about their work supporting the Internet freedom community; learn about their direct funding opportunities and lab resources; and their recent growth, as a result of bipartisan support from the US Congress.

In addition, our guests, Laura and Marcin will demystify OTF’s Congressional mandate, funding priorities, and processes. Since 2020, OTF has taken a number of steps to better support and sustain the internet freedom community to respond to growing digital authoritarianism and Laura and Marcin will explain why they are optimistic about the future.

Featured guests:

Laura Cunningham is the President of OTF. Laura has over a decade of experience working on internet freedom across a variety of donor, non-profit, and government organizations. Prior to joining OTF, Laura was the Senior Advisor for Internet Freedom in the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor, where she led the Department’s internet freedom programs focused on technology development, digital security, Internet policy advocacy, and research.

Marcin de Kaminski is a Vice President of Programs at OTF. Marcin previously worked as a Policy Specialist at the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), with a specific focus on internet freedom technologies. Most recently Marcin was the Director of Security and Innovation at the Swedish-based international human rights organization Civil Rights Defenders.
