Wow what a year 2025 is shaping up to be! And 2020 was bad…In a year full of uncertainty, loss, upheavals of governments, foreign aid and funding cuts, increases in censorship, surveillance and government imposed shutdowns, targeted killings of journalists- more than during any other war, sophisticated phishing schemes and AI threatening our truthful reality, it can be hard to find hope. Finding space for hope, solidarity, and collective strength is more important than ever.
As part of the Global Gathering, we invite you to join the first-ever Digital Rights 5K: Freedom in Motion, a unique and optional community event designed to help us reconnect, recharge, and remind ourselves why this movement matters. Together, we’ll walk, jog, or run a 5K loop along the breathtaking Atlantic Ocean in Estoril, Portugal. Whether you come to stretch your legs, share stories, or simply be present with others, this is a chance to celebrate resilience, affirm our shared values, remember our motivation, and carry forward the spirit of freedom, access, and human dignity.
Let’s move together. Let’s uplift each other. Let’s remember our “why.”
