Welcome to the Feira at the Global Gathering!
The Feira at the Global Gathering will be held in the afternoons and evenings in a tree-filled, outdoor venue in sunny Estoril, Portugal. It is designed to provide digital rights defenders (DRDs) with a rejuvenating space to reconnect, relax and host self-organized meetups and discussions. There will also be sun, food, music, local vendors, booths showcasing digital rights organizations and projects, and fun evening activities (did someone say karaoke?!). If you are interested in joining the Feira, this year your focus should be on networking and recharging your batteries with your colleagues.
Date: September 15, 16, and 17
Time: 13:30 - 20:30 local time
Where: Estoril, Portugal
Afternoon Activities
Meet 'n' Greet and Networking Opportunities
One of the repeated reasons applicants stated for joining the Feira, was reconnecting with individuals in the digital rights space as well as networking and meeting new digital rights activists.
We will have structured, facilitated, networking opportunities hosted on a daily basis to help people re-kindle and reinforce those older working relationships and expand their networks.
Meetups and Self-Organized Discussions
Meetups and self-organized discussions can be pre-scheduled or organized at the event for 1 or 1.5 hours from 14 to 18 local time.
Keep an eye on the Global Gathering Feira mailing list for updates about how to pre-schedule meetups or discussions in July.
If you have questions or ideas to share with the Global Gathering team, please reach out to [email protected].
Semi-Private and Invite-Only Meetups and Discussions
Semi-Private and invite-only meetups and discussions will be held in the quiet, semi-private Summit space so that participants can have more privacy. They can be semi-private and welcome specific participant profiles at the Global Gathering (e.g. regional and practitioner meetups) or they can be invite-only.
Team CommUNITY will be organizing a number of semi-private regional and practitioner meetups at this year's Global Gathering:

Public Meetups and Self-Organized Discussions
Public meetups and self-organized discussions will take place in the main Feira space at dedicated tables throughout the afternoon. Meetups and discussions held in the main Feira space will have more visibility and allow Global Gathering attendees to step in and out of conversations more spontaneously.
Project Showcase
The Feira will be hosted in an outdoor space, surrounded by individual vendor booths. Individuals will have the opportunity to showcase their projects, organizations, and research in a booth that can be personalized for the duration of their scheduled shift. Projects can schedule 2 or 4-hour shifts on one or more days of the Feira.
You can still apply to showcase your project at the Feira! Apply here.
Evening Activities
Each evening from 18 - 20.00 local time, the Feira space will turn up the volume and turn down the lights!
Evening activities will include:
- Sponsored parties with live music, DJ sets, dancing and karaoke
- Food vendors, as well as complimentary small bites (i.e. tapas)
- Non-alcoholic beverages, beer and wine
- Space for continued informal discussions, networking, relaxing, and some glitter paint
