|'''AI Accountability in Practice: Centering Community Voices'''
|'''Anti-SLAPP Directive beyond EU borders'''
|<small>Understanding and evaluating Artificial Intelligence systems and their downstream societal impact is rarely grounded in (or takes account of) experiences, perspectives, and concerns of impacted communities and advocacy/rights groups. This Circle will bring together advocacy experts and rights activists to exchange ideas and practices around accountability and harm reduction in digital systems for their communities. Our aim is to learn from the techniques and strategies used in advocacy work to contest and hold tech systems, particularly those focused on AI, to account and protect affected communities.</small>
|<small>Over the past two years, Eastern Europe and Central Asia have seen a troubling rise in Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (SLAPPs). This Circle brings together a) experts working on domestic anti-SLAPP legislation and supporting mechanisms for victims, b) individuals facing SLAPP cases. Participants will exchange experiences, best practices, and concerns. The discussion will also address whether existing instruments are effective measures to combat SLAPP and if they should be expanded to other jurisdictions. Also if a global standard is needed and what it should look like  (''e.g.'', expanding to criminal cases, covering all types of actors, etc). Notably, while international organisations have developed legal instruments to safeguard the victims of abusive court proceedings, they are largely inapplicable beyond the EU borders (Anti-SLAPP Directive) or have a recommendatory nature (the Council of Europe Anti-SLAPP Recommendation).</small>

It will discuss how civil society can engage with States to ensure they take meaningful action against irresponsible CCIC companies, such as via the integration of human rights due diligence in their practices. The discussion will also look at identifying the most promising levers to drive change across the cyber intrusion market, including but not limited to investor engagement.</small>

We will start with a review of when to use which tool followed by a live game show that tests and further builds knowledge, culminating and sweet rewards! |<small>''This is part 1 of a two part Circle series'' As the digital rights field faces a historic funding crisis, many of us are asking: What now? We all are looking for alternative funding, but how do we organize for that? How do we prepare our organization to become more agile on fundraising? What options of alternative funding exist—from reimagined grantmaking models to untapped donors, ethical partnerships, and community-powered support. Together, we’ll surface bold ideas, share examples from adjacent movements, and identify who might be ready to fund this work—even if they haven’t yet. This session is about expanding our collective imagination and beginning to chart a path toward financial resilience rooted in solidarity, innovation, and justice.</small>

|'''Mirror Maze: Non-Standard Solutions in the Area of Web Content Mirroring'''
|<small>Mirroring technology and website mirroring is one of the oldest tricks in the anti-censorship book. But when proxy servers and virtual private networks allowed visitors to evade censorship by technical means, website mirroring fell out of grace for much of a decade. In the last three years, website mirrors and mirroring technology has seen a bit of a revival now that the most sophisticated of censors - China, Russia, Iran, others - are consistently blocking VPN-based traffic. As part of this discussion, we want to present new ways of using mirrors, including solutions based on client-side JavaScript libraries that combine mirrors from different providers to increase the accessibility of web content, as well as those that use RSS and other delivery technologies for content mirroring. We also look forward to community participation in cataloging and reviewing new, non-standard solutions in the field of domain and web content mirroring.</small>

Our small team (two developers, the project manager, a comms lead and myself) had diverse and internal conversations where we started asking ourselves questions about the work we were doing. For example: We wanted to communicate clearly to users what it would happen when clicking the AI button, we gave a lot of thought to messages in dialogs, we evaluated trade off and we put our communicate at the centre of our work: We ran a pilot with 5 different organizations, with focus on getting feedback but also questions about the local AI integration. Anti-SLAPP Directive beyond EU borders Over the past two years, Eastern Europe and Central Asia have seen a troubling rise in Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (SLAPPs). Also if a global standard is needed and what it should look like (e.g., expanding to criminal cases, covering all types of actors, etc). Notably, while international organisations have developed legal instruments to safeguard the victims of abusive court proceedings, they are largely inapplicable beyond the EU borders (Anti-SLAPP Directive) or have a recommendatory nature (the Council of Europe Anti-SLAPP Recommendation).
Commercial Spyware and Other Intrusion Capabilities: Integrating Civil Society Voices in the Pall Mall Process This Circle will aim at discussing how States can better incorporate diverse civil society voices in the Pall Mall Process to foster industry commitments to tackle the proliferation and irresponsible use of commercial cyber intrusion capabilities (CCICs), including commercial spyware. It will discuss how civil society can engage with States to ensure they take meaningful action against irresponsible CCIC companies, such as via the integration of human rights due diligence in their practices. The discussion will also look at identifying the most promising levers to drive change across the cyber intrusion market, including but not limited to investor engagement.
